With demand for Eco-friendly construction increasing, construction companies are starting to go green in more and more ways. If you are building a home or non-residential building, and want to do so in a more ecologically friendly manner, then there are some ways to do just that. The construction industry faces a challenge in going green, but I think they are up for it.

Saving Energy and Increasing Longevity with Concrete

One of the main elements to any eco-building is going to be energy conservation.  Concrete is actually a very popular building material to use because it has a great capacity for helping manage heating and cooling in a building. Cement is a diverse material able to absorb heat in the summer to help cool a space, and releasing heat absorbed during the winter to help warm the same space. Limestone is a poplar material to use because it is so abundant on the planet and therefore does not require as much ecological impact to extract. The effects of concrete are all done passively, and without the need of any fancy machinery.

Another plus to using concrete is that it has immense longevity. One of the concerns in the green economy is that conventional materials are not built to last as long as they could be. This has a lot to do with the short sighted nature of the current way of building and production. Concrete can withstand fire and water to a large degree, which is also a plus for the wallet of the property owner. The less one has to perform repairs, the more money they save on the property.

What about Electricity?

Another passive form of energy use would be the installation of south facing windows to help take in solar energy as well.  Speaking of solar energy, the most common way of installing an energy system in a green home or building is to use solar panels. These are highly efficient, and in the long run save the property owner a lot of money. When a construction company is able to include solar installation as part of what they do, then they become that much more attractive to potential clients that are Eco-conscious.

In short, building Eco-friendly structures is better for the planet, and can also be very profitable for construction companies that are hopping on the green bandwagon. Green buildings are built to last, perform efficiently, and save you money.
